In August 2013, I was involved in an automobile accident which caused a spinal cord injury resulting in paralysis. While in rehabilitation at Shepherd center in Atlanta, I was fitted for a manual wheelchair. I was hopeful the wheelchair would be efficient and allow my life to be comfortable, providing a reliable base for recovery. Unfortunately, even though I have made tons of progress over the last three years, I feel the wheelchair is holding me back from further recovery. As my body has changed over the years, I no longer fit in the chair, and the chair has parts that are wearing out. This has caused muscle issues and scoliosis, resulting in more pain now than when I first finished rehab. I've had to take a leave of absence from my job and give up wheelchair rugby. I have been fitted for a new chair that I hope will help me reverse some of the damage and become an active member of society again. Thank you so much for reading my story and thinking about helping me. It means more than you will ever know that I'm not alone in this fight.
