The West End Yacht Club help get a Tortola Sloop restored.

Donation protected
Hi, Im Steve Varrow the Commodore of the West End Yacht Club and I am raising money for the Tortola Sloop foundation in the BVI.

I invite you to be a part of a timeless maritime tradition by supporting the restoration of a Tortola sloop, a vessel deeply embedded in the cultural fabric of the British Virgin Islands (BVI). Our goal is to raise $3,300 (£2,600) to ensure this historic boat can compete in the 50th Foxy’s Wooden Boat Regatta this May 24th -25th.

The Importance of the Tortola Sloop
The Tortola sloop is more than just a sailboat; it's a vessel of history, representing the spirit and resilience of the BVI's maritime culture. Traditionally, these boats were built by local craftsmen using materials sourced from the islands, showcasing a unique blend of skill and innovation that defined our seafaring legacy. These vessels were essential for fishing, trading, and transporting goods between the islands, serving as lifelines to the communities that relied on them.

The impending restoration of this sloop comes at a critical time for preserving this heritage. As we approach the 50th Foxy’s Wooden Boat Regatta, an Iconic event in the BVI sailing calendar we have a unique opportunity to honor this legacy, bringing together the community and highlighting the craftsmanship of our ancestors. This event not only celebrates our past but also inspires future generations to appreciate and uphold our rich maritime traditions.

What We Need
Thanks to the generous support of Nanny Cay Marina, which is donating essential parts for the restoration, we are now focusing on funding the labor and manufacture of structural members required to bring the sloop back to life and make her Seaworthy. Our fundraising goal of $3,300 will directly contribute to this effort, ensuring that the sloop is sail-ready in time to showcase its beauty and significance at the regatta.

Why Donate?
By contributing to our campaign, you are helping in several meaningful ways:

Cultural Preservation: Your donation directly supports the preservation of a vital piece of BVI heritage, ensuring that the skills and traditions attached to the Tortola sloop are not lost to time.

Community Engagement: The restoration project fosters community involvement, pulling together local enthusiasts, craftsmen, and volunteers who are passionate about keeping our maritime culture alive.

Inspiring Future Generations: Supporting this project means you are investing in education and inspiration for young people in the BVI. With an appreciation for their heritage, they can grow into custodians of traditions that shape our identity.

Participation in a Historic Event: Your contribution will not only help restore the sloop but also enable it to participate in the 50th Foxy’s Wooden Boat Regatta, a highlight of our annual celebrations that brings together locals and visitors alike.
