We are not sure if we are brave or stupid...maybe a bit both? Well, see what you think!
As a group of local Swansea lads (originally at least, and most of us still) we've decided to take on the challenge of cycling the length of Wales (approx 210 miles). For some reason we felt that wasn't going to be enough, so we are going to stop off and scale the three highest peaks (Snowdon, Cadar Idris and Pen Y Fan - approx 9,397 feet of climbing) on our way.
The challenge will be done over the course of three days, leaving from Anglesey on the morning of Friday 16th of August and arriving back in Loughor on Sunday 18th.
We are a group of 11 and if you don't recognise us from the mugshots, our group includes:
Steve Raikes (R7 Fitness)
Tom Davies
Toby Davies
Steve Lloyd
Peter Davies (Davius)
Sam Saunders (Spuff)
Scott Beynon
James Davies
Warren Davies
Dewi Thomas
Kyle Tucker
So, why are we doing this? We want to test and challenge ourselves physically and mentally in order to raise as much money as possible for what we believe is for an incredibly important charity within our community.
We are raising money in aid of THE RISING STARS THEATRE COMPANY.
This is a fantastic charity formed in 2008 by a group of dedicated parents who wanted to provide opportunities for young people and adults with an additional learning need, to express themselves through the medium of drama and dance. All their efforts are showcased in two annual shows at Taliesin and Pontardawe Arts Centres.
The Rising Stars are also invited to raise disability awareness by making several public appearances throughout the year, performing at high profile events.
The company has recently grown by launching its new youth group, for members aged 10-16. They are also aiming to launch a mentors group who can work with schools, putting the ability into disAbility.
We have seen first hand, the wonderful work this group does and how it allows people with additional learning needs the opportunity to develop their social skills, build confidence and offer a network of friendship and support.
The company relies entirely on charitable donations and every donation makes a big difference.
Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to us as a group.
