Why are we doing this?
This project exists within the non-profit, Living with Conviction, whose mission is to empower formerly incarcerated people. Men and women are currently released from Washington State correctional institutions with only $40.00 to their name.
These backpacks will ease the challenge of transition by meeting basic human needs and providing information on community resources. It also sends a clear message that our community welcomes them back, as evidenced by handwritten welcome notes from our volunteers.
The backpacks will be donated to the Seattle-based reentry organization Interaction Transition, a group that supports individuals before, during, and after release from incarceration. Their prison outreach programs currently take place in Monroe Correctional Complex and Mission Creek Corrections Center For Women.
Your donation will go towards our effort to compile 30 full backpacks by the end of the summer. Any amount is much appreciated.
To sponsor a complete resource backpack = $63.00
