The Webers Lost Home & Health to Toxic Mold

If you are Weber friends or family members, or followers of Mary’s author social media, you’ve probably seen her recent post regarding the painful year their family has had—and the devastating circumstances they are currently working through.

THE GIST:

After a long year of scary, severe health issues, toxic mold was discovered in their home, and not only will it have to be torn down (while they’re still paying on it), they’re fighting for their health & facing a mountain of medical bills.

THE DETAILS:

Following 8 months of one daughter’s intense illness that doctors couldn’t figure out, the family finally got a partial, accurate diagnosis. Then, in June, just as their daughter was moving out for college & recovering, Mary’s own health crashed.

She suddenly lost 18 pounds, the ability to remember words, began having physical panic attacks every 2 hours, 24/7 vertigo, severe GERD, and a host of other symptoms.

Shortly after, the strange depression that’d been building over time became overwhelming, and she became suicidal.

Doctors, psychiatrist, and medical specialists ran countless tests (blood work, brain MRI, endocrine tumor tests, adrenal tumor tests, etc) but couldn’t find the cause.

Until a doctor's assistant off-handedly suggested the symptoms sounded like mold poisoning.

They ran a 24-hour mycotoxin test, which came back positive for high levels in her system—and they learned that mold can cause every one of Mary’s symptoms. (In fact: on a recent symptom-based test of “10 & above being likely mold-related,” her symptoms came in at 67).

Not only that, but the mold was also responsible for their daughter’s illness (which is why her health began improving in June when she moved out for college). It’s also why the Weber’s second daughter started getting sick, followed by their son, right as Mary got tested.

Peter and Mary had their house inspected for mold and learned it was behind nearly every wall and ceiling.

Because the mold is due to a structural issue, the house (which has been their home for 15 years) will have to be torn down completely, and all of their belongings trashed due to the severity of contamination.

Not only have they lost much of their health, they’ve lost their home and everything in it. Furniture, most clothing, books, memorabilia, pictures, board games, winter jackets . . . all of it.

The family has moved in with Mary’s parents, and the kids are thankfully recovering. Mary has been diagnosed with BioToxin Illness and told it will take a year to return her health to normal.

And that's why we’re here. Inviting anyone who’s been blessed or touched by the Weber family and their enormous hearts that’ve continually given out to their friends, church, writing community, & local community—to help us return the love.

We know they have at least $28,000 to recoup in medical costs, plus all of their belongings and home.

Thank you so much for considering joining us. Mary posted this beautiful, hopeful line from The Lord Of The Rings, and we thought it very fitting for this season they’re in:

“But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer.”

Let’s be part of that new day dawning, shall we, friends?

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
