The Warren's journey to being cancer free
Spende geschützt
WE HAVE RAISED $12,337 OUTSIDE OF GOFUNDME DONATIONS, WE ARE LESS THAN $10,000 FROM OUR GOAL!
Hey everyone! Part of the $25,000 will go towards paying the apartment/airbnb for Johndavid and his caregiver for 11 weeks. At a discounted rate, this will cost between $6,000-$7,500. Estimated food for 11 weeks for 2 people is $7,500. Every other trip to Houston cost between $500-$1000 with gas, food, and hotels. We are estimating between Johndavid and Tiffany's trips to Houston and shrevport to cost $10,000-$15,000. Any extra funds would go towards their mortgage and car payments. Please understand that the majority of these trips are outpatient appointments with no free food or overnight stay with the hospital.
Most people know Tiffany and JohnDavid’s story, but we wanted to consolidate it to share on this platform because multiple people have been asking about a GoFundMe and seeking ways to help financially.
On May 4, Tiffany had surgery to remove some masses that appeared suddenly in her right foot in February. By the end of May she had a diagnosis: nonskeletal Ewing’s sarcoma. This disease usually affects children while their bones are growing, so it is really rare to find it in a 30-year-old! In June Tiffany’s PET scan revealed that the cancer had spread to a lymph node at the top of her right leg. In the words of her oncologist, “Ewing’s does not spread to lymph nodes.” She had surgery to remove the node and it came back as positive for Ewing’s sarcoma. In short, she has a rare version of a rare cancer.
As for treatment, Tiffany has been through 1 1/2 cycles of chemo. After 4 complete cycles she will get another PET scan to see how responsive the cancer is to the chemo and determine if another surgery will be needed. Right now her treatment is taking place at LSU Ochsner’s, but the plan is to transfer to MD Anderson at the beginning of September to cut down on driving expenses (she has been driving every week to Shreveport while JohnDavid has been driving every week to Houston).
As for JohnDavid, he received news on June 8 that his PET scan revealed an active infection in his liver, abdomen, lungs, and bones - most likely a relapse of Hodgkin’s lymphoma, which he beat five years ago. His oncologist in Leesville immediately referred him to MD Anderson. He has a pulmonary biopsy scheduled for June 15. Because he cannot begin treatment until we have a definitive diagnosis, we are hoping the biopsy is positive for Hodgkin’s.
The treatment plan crafted by his MD Anderson care team is very intensive. It will start with a couple of cycles of chemo followed by an 11-week period where the hospital will require him to be in Houston with a full-time caregiver the entire time. The 11-week treatment will include a specially designed concoction that essentially strips JohnDavid’s immune system so that NONE of the vaccines he has had in his life are active anymore! That means he will have to get them all again - even his childhood ones. The treatment plan will also incorporate stem cell transplant.
Many people have already contributed financially in BIG ways and those donations are being saved so that Tiffany and JohnDavid are covered for food and lodging as much as possible during this time. We are creating this GoFundMe so that there is one centralized location if anyone feels led to give in the future.
We truly feel God’s hand in the midst of this season. God is GOOD and His character does not change based on circumstance! We believe He will carry them through this time because He is Jehovah Jireh - the God who provides. And we think it’s beautiful that He moves and provides through His sons and daughters! Thank you so much for following this story and watching testimonies unfold.
