'The Walk to School'-This May I intend walking over 600km around Ireland to raise awareness and sponsorship for 3 worthy causes-Cycric Fibrosis Ireland,Milford Hospice and Clonalvy National School.On May 17th I am leaving Clonalvy National School in Meath where my children attend school and walking initially to Beltra National school in Mayo where my father went to school as a child.I am then continuing on to Monaleen National School in Limerick where I attended primary school before returning to Clonalvy,hopefully in one piece!
Ireland has the highest rate of occurrence of Cystic Fibrosis in the world.Cystic Fibrosis Ireland acts as a support organisation for individuals living with Cystic Fibrosis and for their families.CFI also carry out lobbying for better treatment and services for patients with CF.Any funds raised will be used to help them carry out their important work.
Milford Hospice is a hospice in Milford, Limerick.Milford Care Centre is not just a Hospice Inpatient Unit,It provides multiple services to North Munster. These include Hospice at Home services, a Nursing Home, Day Care for both the Older Person and people with palliative care needs.Staff also offer Bereavement Support for families.This staff work in conjunction with other health care professionals in the community.
Clonalvy National is one of the oldest schools in county Mearh with origins dating back to at least 1823.A small two teacher country school,Clonalvy N.S. is somewhat underfunded and any funds realised will be used in the general upkeep and running of the school as well as hopefully updating some of the older furnishings in the school.
