We are raising funds for David and Caralee Voth and their three teenage children, a beloved family in the Chilliwack community who are facing an overwhelming and unexpected housing crisis.
What Happened
The shingles on the Voth family’s eleven-year-old roof failed across most of the structure, allowing significant moisture to enter and rapidly build up in the attic. This sudden increase in humidity created the perfect environment for widespread mold growth, which spread through the attic and eventually permeated the entire home.
There had been some pre-existing moisture and ventilation concerns in the house that the family had been addressing gradually. Unfortunately, the unexpected roof failure caused these manageable issues to become severe, accelerating mold development far beyond what anyone could have anticipated.
Although the shingles and roof plywood have now been replaced, the resulting interior damage is extensive. The family was forced to move out and must dispose of nearly all fibrous materials, including mattresses, books, and much of their clothing.
They have also had to hire a professional remediation company to safely eliminate the mold throughout the home.
The Cost of Rebuilding
Because the mold penetrated throughout the house, the Voth family now faces significant reconstruction needs, including:
New insulation, drywall replacement interior painting throughout, new flooring and underlay, and replacement of other contaminated materials essential to making the home safe again
These are major, unavoidable expenses required to restore the home to a livable condition.
Insurance Will Not Cover the Damage
Despite the severity and scope of the issue, the Voths’ home insurance does not cover this costly remediation and rebuild because the situation was not considered a “sudden” or “catastrophic” event. This leaves the family responsible for nearly all of the repair costs—an overwhelming financial burden for a family of five.
Why This Family Matters
David and Caralee are deeply rooted in the community. They teach violin, piano, and cello, enriching the lives of countless students. David also conducts the Chilliwack (CYO), investing his time and talent into mentoring young musicians.
They are a family who continually gives back. Now, they need our help.
Our Goal
We are seeking to raise $30,000, which will cover only a portion of the remediation and reconstruction costs. The Voth family is committed to contributing as much “sweat equity” as possible, but the financial burden remains far beyond what they can manage alone.
How You Can Help
Your donation—of any size—will go directly toward helping the Voth family restore their home and return to a safe living environment. Together, we can lighten the load and support a family that has supported so many others.
Thank you for standing with the Voth family during this incredibly difficult time.
