The victims of Hissene Habre

Hissene Habre was the brutal dictator of Chad in the 1980s. Thousands were tortured and killed during his rule. But in 2017 a group of his victims succeeded in bringing him to trial in Senegal, and he was jailed for life for crimes against humanity.
I wrote a book about this extraordinary struggle for justice which lasted 25 years. There were many many times when lesser people would have given up. The book is the story of people such as Jacqueline Moudeina, Clement Abaifouta and Souleymane Guengueng, who refused to let go of their dream of justice.

Unfortunately for them my book is in English, and they only speak and read French. It is my dream to get my book translated into French so that people in Senegal and Chad, and most importantly Habre's victims, will be able read it.

If you can help me reach my target, the money will be used to pay a Senegalese translator to translate the book. Any money left over will be used to send copies of the book to Chad where it can be distributed in schools and universities. Friends at the International African Institute have offered to top up what we raise here with extra funding.
I will make sure anyone who donates gets a mention in the thank you page when the book is published!
A Senegalese publisher is buying the rights to the book, and we need the money by the end of March 2019 in order to proceed with the project.
I will not receive any royalties from this project - the original English version has barely broken even and I have not earned anything from it. I simply wish to ensure this fantastic story of hope over pessimism is shared with as many people as possible. I would like to contribute to meaningful knowledge transferral from Europe to Africa, where Chadians can read Chadian stories.
