Supporting Hands for Forgotten (SHFF) is an organization built on the principle of love & care for the “forgotten” around us. It was birthed by Mrs. Cissy Mpanju, an American migrant from Uganda, Africa. Cissy is a professional nurse, whom after losing her husband to COVID 19 in 2021, felt loved by a person considered forgotten. This drew her closer to them and thus got to know the challenges of life they carry, yet no one seems to consider them for any support. The organization mainly looks at holistic support to the pastors’ wives, their children & social networks. This involves financial, social, spiritual & physical support through trainings, workshops, conferences, start-up capital, skills trainings, self help projects among others; all geared towards self-esteem building.
In the 2 years of serving, we have been able to have prayer sessions, workshops and trainings in the rural areas of Tororo in Eastern Uganda, Kisoga in central Uganda and Kanungu in Western Uganda. Pastors’ wives from these regions were empowered and shared challenges together as they were inspired in prayer. In December 2022 a general conference was organized in Kampala, the capital titled “Vessels of Honor Conference” where over 150 pastors’ wives were given a treat in a hotel, they felt honored, loved & treasured; some of them confessed never to have slept in a hotel. Not only that, they recieved hands-on training in modern farming, cake making, vaseline making, re-usable pads making, among others. They prayed together, laughed together and shared christmas gifts from SHFF; it was a life changing 4-day conference with the pastors’ wives.
Some women shared:
“I have never felt appreciated as I have been these 3 days” said Grace from Tororo.
“We are out for a treat, what a mighty God who rewards His servants even in secret!” said a participant from Namayingo
“I have learnt how to use resources around me to create income, it will be of value at my church” Said Margaret from Luwero
“Our youth girls at church lack sanitary pads, I have learnt how to make re-usable sanitary pads, if I get a sewing machine, then I will produce in large numbers for our village girls, thank you SHFF & all our sponsors.” Said Eunice from Kanungu.
Now, we are yet again coming up with ‘The vessels of Honor’ conference 2023’ it is happening from 9th to 11th August 2023 in Rakai Western Uganda. We are empowering 300 pastors wives in the region with a residential holistic skilling conference. We plan to pray, play, train, skill and also give gifts (Beddings) to the participants. To have trainers, accomodation, transportation, feeding and buying them gifts requires funds. $67 can fund a pastor’s wife to come attend this life changing conference.
