The Veranda, Simon’s Outdoor Refuge!
I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of support that I have received from all of you. This support has done a great deal to improve my mood and sustain me in maintaining my recovery. In addition to the conventional therapy I am working on working on a holistic approach to treatment. The goal of this approach is to:
" . . . to be able to go on living, fully alive, among the living.”
From Anti-Cancer: A New Way of Life by David Servan-Schreiber, MD, PhD.
This comprehensive lifestyle transformation program for cancer survivors focuses on the tools and information necessary to make and sustain evidence-based lifestyle changes in the areas of diet, fitness, mindset, and environment.
To this end, we would like to ask you for the gift of a spiritual refuge to support these elements, particularly my mindset and environment. We have a small back porch that is delightful for sitting, resting and recuperating. It is a place for me to pray, meditate and watch as my neighbors enjoy our trolley trail. This Veranda, as we are calling it, is almost always in the shade with a nice breeze. The downside of this location is the openness to insect life, especially flies and mosquitos. What we want to do is refurbish the Veranda and screen it in. To do this right and take care of some other elements, adding external power and a fan, will cost close to $10,000. This is an ambitious goal but I know that with your help we can go a long way to achieving it.
Once this is accomplished it will provide the ideal spiritual sanctuary for my journey to health. I have included a “before” picture as well as what I hope could be the “after” picture. I hope you can consider supporting this goal. We would accept any contribution, no matter how small or large. If we exceed our goal, know that any additional funds will be put to good use, on other home projects, or put towards charitable causes.
As an added enticement – I will accept suggestions for naming rights of the Veranda for everyone who makes a donation! I would love to engage your creativity in this endeavor!
Feel free to ask me any questions and thank you for everything.
