The Varga Family

Many of us know the saga of the Varga family. Al Varga, a twenty-plus year employee of the Ayer Shirley school system, was unjustly and untimely forced to leave a job he loved and a community he invested in due to illness. As job prospects became few and far between and Al's health began to fail, the family made the difficult decision to start fresh in Florida in June 2019. Leaving a lifetime of friends and family behind, Al, Wendy, and Rachel set out for a better life and a warmer climate that was more beneficial for Al's health.
Recently, Al began the process of being placed on the transplant list for a liver that would ultimately improve his quality of life. All seemed to be looking up for the family. As the family settled into a new normal, life again would come crashing down around them.
A routine visit to a new primary care physician found Wendy, the one who holds it all together, the healthy one, on the receiving end of a devistating and terrifying diagnosis- Stage 3C Breast cancer.
A year of chemo and radiation, life-altering surgeries and great physical changes are ahead for this family. Each chemo treatment will cost around $250.00 out of pocket/ every other week. Chemo will be followed by radiation. Insurance will not cover all expenses and with a liver transplant on the horizon for Al, financial hardship is just around the bend. Funds raised will cover the cost of copayments and medication.
The members of the Varga family are more than my friends, they are my family. I love them dearly and although I cannot change their fate, I can ask for help for them. Every penny adds up. If you cannot donate, sharing is just as important. Thank you for reading. Keep this family in your prayers.
