I am Kim De Vries, and I am fundraising for my dear sister, Betsy, who can speak for herself:
In April, I was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma, also known as bile duct cancer, centralized in my liver. Known as a ‘silent’ cancer, it often does not present itself with any early noticeable symptoms and when mine was discovered it had reached stage 4: inoperable. Yep, bummer.
Though this has jolted my world, I can assure you, that aside from significant fatigue, I feel good and very strong as I get ready to schedule my treatment. I have a remarkable team of world class doctors at Mass General, Minnesota and at Maine Med who are using their vast experience and knowledge to create the best possible treatment as well as staying on the cusp of every clinical trial that could be helpful to me. Currently, I am awaiting the genetic results of a recent biopsy, which will inform the best strategy for treatment.
Lastly, I have had to put my counseling practice on indefinite hold during the most expensive event of my life so my sister has set up a GoFundMe page (see below), which will help me in all kinds of ways so I can focus my energy on healing.
This has been pretty surreal so far; my cats thank you and I thank you all for your patience and support.
Betsy also has a CaringBridge page, which will have more details about her situation, as we move forward. The Utterly Amazing Elizabeth's Caring Bridge page
