The Uruapan Conservatory: Let the Music Play On
The idea of opening the Uruapan Conservatory was born from a clear dream: that no musical talent should ever be extinguished for lack of resources. In a region where social reality is complex, we strive for music to be a refuge and a language of hope.
Today, that dream is alive. We have 40 students, and nearly half are young children who arrive with eyes full of curiosity and hands eager to play. They come not only from Uruapan but also from surrounding communities—families who travel long distances and make enormous sacrifices to give their children an opportunity they never had.
Some students receive scholarships, but there is one need that no scholarship can fully cover: access to an instrument.
Imagine a child who discovers a love for the violin but cannot practice at home.
Or a young woman who dreams of the piano, but whose family cannot afford one.
Their enthusiasm clashes with economic reality, and that is deeply painful for us.
A Critical Emergency
There is a sense of urgency: Individuals, associations, and museums in the Netherlands have generously donated instruments to the Uruapan Conservatory. It is an invaluable gesture of solidarity. However, these instruments are currently stuck in customs at the port of Veracruz.
Import duties and transportation costs are extremely high. If we do not raise the necessary funds soon, we run the risk of losing them forever.
Every day that passes without these instruments reaching our students’ hands is a day a child might lose motivation, a talent might be stifled, or a dream might fade away. Music cannot wait.
Why we started this campaign:
To prevent hope from getting stranded halfway.
To ensure that the children of Uruapan and its surroundings don't just hear music, but can create it.
Your contribution will do more than just bring these instruments to Uruapan; it means buying time and possibilities for our students' dreams. It means consistency, a future, and hope.
Today, you can provide the missing note so that a song—and a life—can keep playing.
