The Unsinkable Misty Fox...surviving hurricane Ian
Donation protected
Misty Fox's Nightmare
In the aftermath of Hurricane Ian, my good friend Misty Fox has COMPLETLY LOST HER HOME AND JOB but not her unwavering spirit for life. 100% of all funds will be used for her shelter and food until she is approved for disaster assistance from FEMA. All donations will be deposited directly into Misty's bank account. Currently, she is sharing a hotel room with four other people who also find themselves homeless. And drying up their dwindling funds for survival to pay for food and shelter. So I appreciate your consideration. I know times are hard for everyone, so I understand if you can't donate at this time; if so, please become an ambassador and share my plea to your network in lieu of a contribution. (heart emoji)
(Misty Fox text message to HCIII)
"I'm bummed a little ...they denied me access to the beach ...my friend had a flat in the middle of nowhere on the highway, so we spent most of the day recovering from that ...and it was my first day back to Fort Myers since the disaster!!! HOWARD ITS BAD!! The perfect little town is destroyed trees, roads, and boats ...not one square block of normalcy... within 60 miles... My heart is broken... but I did hear of a job opportunity and a possible temporary housing spot... so good and bad!!"

Hi, I'm Howard, and I started this GoFundMe Page to help my friend during this time of hardship. Why? I met my "Rehab Twin" in the foxhole of life. I alienated family and friends and began feeling like a leper because no one wanted to speak or have anything to do with me. Misty arrived the same day as me, and we spent the better half a year together. Even though I had nothing to share, she shared all she had with me without a second thought; while I stood in my pride, I never had to ask, and she became an angel for me.
Before the mandatory evacuation of her home, she took this last pic and became a refugee in her own country!
Misty Fox will give the shirt off her back, which is not hyperbole because I've seen her give the shirt off her back (a lot) freely with no conditions to someone in need. When I was surfing the dumps, she gave me money, food, candy, and even mascara (I'll return to that.) Misty gave me something I was in short supply of, Hope. She also taught me the courage to love myself, the good, the bad, the all of me. So finding Misty Fox in a crisis, I am hoping to repay her for everything she did for me with the same gift she blessed me with; HOPE!
Misty's infectious personality is a beloved waitress for"Nervous Nellies," a favorite destination spot for tourists to Fort Myers Beach.
You heard me correctly when I said mascara before; she even gave me bottles of her mascara (several times) for me to brush the color back into my graying beard and razors to trim it. We would color together in our adult coloring books daily using her large assortment of markers as we filled in the empty spaces of our lives each morning in therapy. You never know how important "looking good" is to "feeling good" until one day when you're not doing so good, #RealTalk. She was an angel for me when I felt abandoned and alone. While hospitalized, I only asked one thing of my family the entire time in Rehab: a box of "Thank You" cards.
The "Thank you" cards allowed me to transcribe and share with the people on my journey how I could not have made it without them. And so I wrote from my bleeding heart, and Misty Fox was at the top of the list. Now, my heart is bleeding as I watch her suffer from Hurricane Ian's attempt to drown the unsinkable Misty Fox. So, I have to lend a hand and so I ask you to help me make those small hands bigger.
Here are some before and after pics of the Fort Myers Beach staple restaurant "Nervous Nellies," where Misty worked.
In the Greeting Card, I told her how she reminded me of this golden age of Hollywood classic Musical. The movie stared Debbie Reynolds in her Oscar-winning role that chronicled the unbelievable life of Margret Brown called "The Unsinkable Molly Brown." Based on a true story, Molly was rescued from the mud as a baby, grew up in poverty, and struck gold in Missouri to become one of the wealthiest Americans before trotting the globe and being one of the few survivors of the Titanic. To me, Misty embodied the spirit of Molly Brown, so I began referring to her as "The Unsinkable Misty Fox" for jokes.
Who knew that one day, that flamboyantly charismatic title would come to take on a much greater meaning in her life than I intended? So, I pledge that all the money raised goes directly to Misty Fox to assist in her fight against homelessness and food expenses to help keep her head above water.

Misty Fox shows that a true mark of great character is not what you do in the light but what you do in the dark.
Battling the aftermath of hurricane Ian. Pictured here in one of the darkest periods of her life, Misty finds the strength to volunteer with trash and debris removal at the 55+ community "Indian Creek Mobile Park."
