Hello and thank you for spending your time reading this. My mother, Lianhua Hu, passed away on the afternoon of August 31st, due to an untimely respiratory arrest. My mother was a devoted and loving mother of two, wife, daughter, sister, and friend.
I truly couldn't have asked for a better person to be my mother. Although they didn't know how to speak English, my parents chose to immigrate to the United States so that my sister and I can have a better education. When my mother first came to the United States, she was healthy and mobile but due to poor financial decisions, my mother worked in a very laborious environment with my father which caused very severe, irreversible harm to her body.
My father would do his best to assist wherever he could, but without fluency in English, there was only so much he could do. They sacrificed so much to provide a roof over our heads and an opportunity at a successful life. She never complained though, she always treated everybody with respect and consideration, no matter the person and no matter the situation she was in. It goes without saying that she always showered the rest of the family with love, care, and happiness. Out of consideration for the family, my mother would always silently endure in the face of each obstacle to ensure she would be the only one to bear the resulting stress
My parents just retired a year ago, and the family figured that she would get better but to our dismay, her health went downhill from there. Her condition was so severe to the point where she could barely walk, was coughing blood, and couldn't sleep peacefully. Her health did seem to get better recently though, she was eating more, was able to walk longer distances, and wasn't coughing anymore.
It was to everybody's shock that she passed away so suddenly, we didn't prepare for this situation because we all believed she would have more time after noticing her improvements. Due to serving in the military, I had no choice but to perform my duties at my assigned duty station in Nebraska, Offutt AFB. Separated by almost 1,500 miles, unable to see each other in person we can only settle with video calling each other and me flying out to California every half a year or so. All my life, I've been the one receiving from her and never the one to give. I already missed all the chances to give back when she was still here, but the least I can do is to help provide her a proper burial and resting place. My mother sacrificed so much for my family and we wouldn't hesitate to resolve everything ourselves but my family's finances have already been spent on bills and a few funeral fees that had to be paid up to now. My family and I understand everyone is going through their difficulties with the current epidemic and are thankful for any support you may be able to provide.
