The Turkish four soon to become six!

Hi on a recent holiday to Hisaranou in Turkey we found two dumped dogs on the wasteland next to our hotel. The story starts with Olive, who came crawling out on her belly wetting herself with fright, desperate for food and some help. I’ll never forget the terror in her eyes but when she knew we wouldn’t hurt her she accepted food and a belly rub from us. She started waiting for us to bring her food and we fell in love with her. My friend and I both help and fundraise in UK rescue and a rescue in Rhodes but there was no help for this dog in Turkey. We had many sleepless nights worrying about her when we left as the season shuts at end of October and she wasn’t confident enough to move herself to a busier area. We were then told that she had been dumped with a sister who was more emaciated and hiding in the forest! We needed to move quickly with Olive as our return to the UK was imminent. We decided we had to help Olive so made enquiries to find a vet who came out and collected her to start all her vet work and we asked about bringing her to the UK. We were put in touch with a fantastic pet travel company who got her into foster for us and helped with taking her to the vets for the rest of her work. It is expensive to bring dogs back (around £2200 - £2400) so not many get out. There are lots of steeet dogs and cats and there is a charity that feeds and does vet work but it’s not enough. Then on our penultimate day Eva, Olive’s sister showed up!! She was in a worse state than Olive and was so traumatised that we couldn’t touch her but we fed her. She accepted the food but wouldn’t let us get too close without fleeing. She used to sit on a big pile of dirt so she felt safe higher up and could see who was approaching. We knew we couldn’t leave her on her own so we contacted the travel company for help. They managed to catch her after we had left but she was so scared she had to be sedated! She is now in foster in Turkey with her sister, both were 6 months old and dumped like rubbish. We have a fundraising page and have almost raised enough now for Olive and Eva but the story goes on!! We’ve been asked to help two more dumped dogs, Eric and Bob and have taken them under our wing too. We are also helping Bill, a very famous street dog and another boy called Buster. There are another couple of street dogs we want to get to the UK into loving homes. We have already found some amazing homes and have done full homechecks for them. We will supply RBU ourselves if these dogs ever bounce back. I know there’s lots of dogs in the UK needing help but they don’t suffer like dogs in Turkey and there are no borders for me where animals are concerned. We will continue to do our bit for UK rescue where we can but really want to make a difference to some of these dogs in Turkey who deserve so much more. Please join our FB page, The Turkish Four Fundraising Group and if you can spare a few quid we would be very grateful!
