The Trina Hovarter Memorial Family Fund

On April 23rd, 2020, Trina Hovarter passed away at the young age of 39 after a 7-year battle with cancer. Trina left behind 5 beloved children: Lorenzo, Wesley, Stanley, Lily, and Adrian ages 12, 9, 8, 7, and 6, who are now in the care of Trina’s Aunts, Tina Duran and Gina Fargo. This GoFundMe is being put together for the benefit of Trina’s children.

To say Trina had a hard life is an understatement; she was born and raised in Southern California and her mom died when she was very young. Trina was the victim of horrific abuse as a child but was rescued by her Grandmother Jan who raised her.

By the age of 32 in 2013, Trina was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer and underwent a radical mastectomy, chemo, and radiation. She went into remission and successfully fought it off, until they discovered it had returned and seeped into her brain which required her to undergo brain surgery in 2017. She continued to fight with a determination to stick around and raise her children, but she went downhill quickly as the cancer came back… it took her right eyesight, she lost mobility of her right arm, and then it aggressively spread to her liver and lungs.

These pictures were taken in March, 2020 right before Trina went into hospice - this was the day she said her final goodbye to her children.

Trina had full custody of her children and notarized documentation stating it was her desire for Tina and Gina to be the sole caregivers of the children for the rest of their lives once she passed away.

This picture is of her and Grandmother Jan walking together the day they had guardian documentation notarized:

Trina’s passion and care for her children was paramount; she was abused all of her life and wanted her children to have a better life than herself more than anything.

At this time, we would like to support Trina’s 5 children in the most fitting manner possible. We realize that offering financial support to the family during this uncertain time of COVID 19 may be difficult and we do not take this lightly;100% of the funds raised will go into a separate bank account which has been created by legal guardians, Tina Duran and Gina Fargo, specifically to help with household, medical, and educational expenses.

How the funds will be used:
The family is in need of a cost-effective yet reliable vehicle which can carry everyone together, the children need tutoring to help them with their re-entry into their assigned grade levels in their new public schools, they came with very little clothing or toys, they are lacking basic household goods such as draperies, sheets, and towels. Aside from the basics most children never have to worry about, they have never had the experience of enjoying any extracurricular activities such as being part of a sports team, taking art or dance classes, or belonging to any clubs. (Four of the children have never even been to the beach and the younger two have only known a life living with a very sick mother in Cabazon.)

Living expenses are high in Southern California and the children have been removed from the squalor they were living in so that they can all be together as a family near Tina and Gina’s existing, stable jobs which they naturally need to retain during our uncertain economy. All 7 of them stayed within a 2 bedroom apartment for 2 months, but their new guardians have managed to secure and move them into a safe rental home.

Here are pictures of the children now in the care of their Aunts and new favorite buddy, Chewy, a beloved Shih Tzu Terrier:

Going to get their first haircuts:

Anything you are willing to donate is very much appreciated.  This account has been set up by concerned friends with the direction of any funds received going straight into a joint beneficiary account for Tina and Gina to use for the best interest of the children. Thank you!!
