On the early morning of Monday, October 25th, 2021, an explosion occurred at the home of the Townsend family, located in the PinPoint community, leaving three of the four family members in critical condition at the Joseph M. Still Burn Center (Augusta, Ga) with significant burn injuries. The explosion led to the family home catching fire, destroying everything, including their vehicles.
Marcella “Marcie” Townsend (44), her son Christian Townsend (14), and her nephew Nazari Townsend (4-months-old) remain in critical yet stable condition at the JMS Burn Center at Doctors Hospital in Augusta, Ga. Mary Townsend, Marcie’s mother, was physically unharmed in the explosion.
Marcie is a successful, renowned Certified Surgical Assistant to numerous surgeons and physicians in Metro-Atlanta and surrounding areas. She is known throughout the various hospitals for her contagious smile, vibrant energy, and go-getter mentality. Marcie is a dedicated daughter, mother, sister, and friend and truly loved and admired by many. Because of her inspirational work as a Social Worker and educator, her mother, Mary, is a family advocate in Savannah and has assisted countless families throughout local communities for over 30 years. Christian is an eighth-grade scholar at Bethesda Academy and enjoys playing sports and bonding with family and friends. Nazari is a happy, healthy 4-month-old baby boy full of joy and laughter.
