When a family suffers back to back tragedies in a short period of time the words "devastating" and "heartbreaking" don't quite describe the dark place they find themselves in. When Ray and Sandy Sockabasin's guiding outpost deep in the Native American Wilderness of Tomah Stream burned to the ground, friends and good souls who knew the place and it's beauty donated to rebuild. It happened fast and hope rose from those ashes.
Last December, a once-in-a-century storm toppled giant pines onto the brand new Tomah Camp reducing it to rubble.
We have contacted the Amish builders of the camp and told them our story. They developed a plan. They will build the three walls needed, as well as the 17 cathedral trusses for the roof at their site in Smyrna, Maine. We are assembling a volunteer work crew to raise the walls and roof.
The Amish building cost to us is $5401.50, and the delivery cost is $585. Our goal is $10,000. This will complete the project with equipment, hardware, roofing, etc.
Please join us to restore the Sockabasin Tomah Camp, which has served a broad clientele as well as many guides for decades. No matter the amount, your participation is greatly needed and appreciated. Thank you.
