Archie is now almost 7 months old! He has been inpatient at SickKids since birth, when he was transferred from Mount Sinai. Unfortunately he has had to fight through and overcome so many obstacles in order to still be with us. Currently there is no timeline of when we will be able to bring Archie home as he is still in the critical care unit. The main reason he is in the CCU is because we haven't been able to get him off the ventilator. He has gotten numerous infections and a few close calls where they weren't sure he would make it through the night. They know he's able to breathe on his own so they're hesitant to give him a trach but at some point if they're unable to move forward with the vent, that is a possibility. They have done more tests recently that show he might have a condition that effects premature babies who have been ventilated for a long time. They've put him on a new setting on the vent that helps that condition and he's been having better days. Unfortunately, before they figured that out, Archie had 2 cardiac arrests within a few days of each other where he needed compressions. So he has gotten a brain MRI & CT scan to rule out any injuries. We have meetings with the neurology and neonatology departments in the next few days to see how he is progressing and if there are any injuries seen. Since he has been on bedrest for most of his life, he will be behind. He will need lots of physical therapy to help get him to a better place. So that means even after he is out of the CCU he will still be inpatient on a different unit so I (Nicole) will continue to stay at the Ronald McDonald House until he is able to leave. While I'm here with Archie, my husband Eli has been at home with the our daughter Ellie. He has stepped into his role as superdad and has taken amazing care of Ellie while working non stop, with the help of my family who has been able to watch her while he works. And while he does work full time the bills have become too much lately since there are so many extra expenses with me living in a different city. While being away from home for the last 8 months have been alot mentally, I'm also having health issues of my own. I recently found out I'm in stage 4 kidney failure, and the cost of my medications have added to the already overwhelming cost of living here. We're asking for support while we try to get through this unimaginable situation. We won't have a timeline of when he will be able to go home but it's safe to assume we will be celebrating Christmas and the new year at SickKids and Ronald McDonald House Charities Toronto. If you're able to help at all we will be forever grateful. Thank you for reading our story. What we need help paying for: - Ronald McDonald House room - rent/bills at home - travel expenses (gas, train tickets) - Nicole's medications - groceries
