Donations are being accepted for the Puppet Parade for Palestine. Funds will be used to cover a $700 week-long box truck rental, food and provisions for our three-day residency (we will be finishing the puppets outside of the city), and water and hydration tablets for the day of the parade. Any surplus funds will be donated, and receipts will be shown as proof of where the money has gone.
Puppet Parade for Palestine is a revolutionary, creative puppet parade stretching 6 miles along the lakeshore in solidarity with Gaza. Starting at Lincoln Park and ending at the 31st Street Beach, the parade length will echo the illegal displacement of Palestinians from the north of Gaza to the South. Currently, there are over 20 puppets ranging from 5 feet to 15 feet, however; more are being built every day.
Parade facilitator Abby Palen says “The parade is intended to evoke joy, but also to remind people that not everyone is having joy. One thing I love is that spectacle puppetry makes you look up. We spend so much time
looking down in life. Looking at our phones and computers can be isolating. Looking up does something for the brain because it's impossible to ignore a puppet parade and as spectators we all experience it together. When somebody's marching past you with something larger than life, you have to sit with it for as long as it's there. You have to think about your position, and decide to join in the anti-genocide art parade or stand outside of it. By supporting us and the parade, you are choosing to join a joyful puppet event, to be part of an artistic statement that is anti-war, not anti-people. I hope you’ll join me."
