On the evening of Thursday, 9 September 2026, Kyle Scanlon, aged just 39, suddenly and unexpectedly passed away at home.

There was no warning. Kyle was considered a fit and healthy man, with no known serious medical issues. His sudden death has left his family, friends and the community completely devastated.

In the moments before Kyle died, his wife, Martina, was desperately performing CPR on her husband under the direction of emergency officers over the telephone. Despite her efforts, Kyle could not be saved and was pronounced deceased shortly after ambulance officers arrived and transferred him to Peel Hospital.

No family should have to experience something so heartbreaking and unexpected.

Kyle was born and raised in the United Kingdom, where he met his wife, Martina. Together they built a beautiful family and had two wonderful boys, Oscar, 12 and Elliott, aged 10.

Kyle dreamed of giving his wife and children a better life and, in January 2026, the family made the enormous decision to leave the United Kingdom behind. They packed up their home, their belongings and their beloved dog, Dave, and moved to Mandurah, Western Australia to start a new chapter together.

Australia quickly became home.

The boys enrolled in local schools and became involved in the local football (soccer) community. Kyle didn't simply stand on the sidelines — he got involved. When the boys' Under 13 football team needed another coach, Kyle put his hand up without hesitation.

He gave his time, energy and encouragement to a group of young boys who looked up to him. Just one week before his death, the team won their league. It was an incredibly proud moment for Kyle — a moment he treasured and one that his family will now hold onto forever.

The impact Kyle had on those boys, and the relationships he formed within the local community in such a short period of time, speaks volumes about the person he was.

And now, in the space of a single evening, Martina and the boys' entire world has been turned upside down.

Kyle was the primary breadwinner for the family. Martina is now not only grieving the sudden and devastating loss of her husband, but is also facing the enormous responsibility of supporting two children on her own, while trying to work out how they will remain in Australia and secure their future.

The family’s immigration status is now uncertain. Martina and the boys were in Australia as secondary visa holders connected to Kyle’s working visa. Without Kyle, they are facing the very real possibility that they may have to leave the country they had only just begun to call home.

The thought of having to leave Australia is devastating enough. Even more heartbreaking is the possibility that they may have to leave behind Dave, their much-loved family dog, who has been part of their journey and their family for years.

So Martina and the boys are facing an unimaginable situation: grieving the husband and father they love, worrying about how they will financially survive, and facing uncertainty about where they will be able to call home. Both Martina and Kyle lost their parents a few years ago.

They should not have to be worrying about any of this right now.

Martina should be able to focus on helping Oscar and Elliott come to terms with losing their dad. She should be able to grieve her husband. The boys should be able to grieve their father and remember the happy memories they shared with him.

Instead, they are having to confront an uncertain financial and immigration future at the same time as dealing with the most painful loss imaginable.

Kyle came to Australia because he wanted to build a better future for his family. In just eight months, he became part of the local community, supported local children, coached football and gave back to the community that he had hoped would become his family's home.

His life was cut tragically short, but his family are determined to continue the life he was trying so hard to build for them.

We are therefore asking for any help that people may be able to provide to Martina, Oscar and Elliott as they navigate the weeks and months ahead.
