The studio needs a new roof (apparently)!

Hello you beautiful person who is reading my crowdfunding campaign,

Long ago (in 2014), I realised my dream of opening a yoga studio in our lovely town, Great Malvern. I was, and still am, proud to offer this facility for our local yoga teachers to rent, either regularly or as one-offs. I was and still am, proud to offer yoga classes to whoever wants to come. Anyone and everyone is welcome at Great Malvern Yoga and has been since I opened the doors in July 2014. We are a community. We love and support each other. Anything and everything goes at my classes! It's a safe space for us to be ourselves and to share our love of yoga. We've done some pretty amazing stuff together as a yoga community, see photo below when we did a flash mob at Malvern's first Pride event! Thirty yogis made a choreographed flower through yoga poses and we all loved coming together to make it happen.

Fast forward 6 years and the pandemic arrived. Overnight I lost all of the students and most of the teachers at the studio. I lost my gym contracts and other venue teaching I did. I rallied quickly and I actually shut the studio a week before official lockdown began because I was concerned about the wellbeing of my students. I immediately started teaching on Zoom. Many of my students have said how important this normality was to them during lockdown, albeit on Zoom. I taught my regular timetable every week during the lockdowns. It was as important to me as it was to all of the students who have supported me throughout this period. We all suffered in one way or another in small ways or in big ways. Some of us dropped out, some of us came back, others didn't have the facility for online yoga, but as soon as we could we went outside and we've tried to make the best of it.

Fast forward to May of this year and the lockdown finally ended. I was ecstatic that I could finally allow people back into my studio again for the first time since December 2020. On 9th June 2021, I received a letter from the management agency for the landlord of the building which houses the yoga studio. It seems that the roof needs replacing. Apparently a survey was carried out and apparently it needs to be done now without any prior warning to me or to any of the other tenants in the building. Apparently the fact that none of us have actually been open very much over the pandemic is irrelevant and the roof needs doing right now. In fact, the scaffolding is up and the roof is being done as I write this. And also the building needs painting, and the window frames (which is true, they do), so I have to pay for that too.

I am asking you to please help me pay for some of my share of this roof. I've dug into my lease as much as I can to try to not have to pay for this, but it seems I have to pay. I have no more personal savings, the pandemic saw to everything financially that I have worked the last 7 years to achieve. If you can, if you use the studio or even if you don't... if you're a yogi, or an aspiring yogi, can you please buy me the equivalent of a nail or a roof tile? All donations will be gratefully accepted! It's not just about me, it's about the wellbeing of our community.
