For the Strong Woman Who Raised Us
Donation protected
Just a few days into 2019 my mother, Paula Jones found herself in the hospital due to back pain. What we thought was just a fractured back turned into something much more serious. A month later, she is being discharged with a diagnosis that has changed our lives.
Metastatic breast cancer. "The five-year survival rate for stage 4 breast cancer is 22 percent; median survival is three years..." is what I found within seconds of my google search. I felt lost and still do... but I am here reaching out to whomever might have the heart to help us make this fight easier.
To know Paula is a gift in and of itself, to be able to provide her with some peace of mind financially during this time is something we would love to be able to help her with. "For the Strong Woman Who Raised Us". My godsister and I came up with this title, as it is the most fitting title we could think of when we thinking of her. Paula raised us and so many others. Dedicating 30+ years of her life to children and families who needed her, she took little time for herself. Whatever she had went into putting me, her only daughter, through school. She came to the United States from Port of Spain, Trinidad on her own. She did the best with what she had and I am proud to call such a strong, independent, and loving woman, my mother.
The cancer has spread to her back and bones leaving her partially demobilized in her right leg. A woman I once knew to be running after kids every second of the day, I now barely recognize. She is walking slowly with assistance and a walker. With treatment and physical therapy our goal is that she will regain her mobility within the next 6 months to a year!
Since she currently cannot work, we are asking for any support you are willing to provide for medical and living expenses. Anything and everything makes a difference. Help us make this fight easier for Paula.
Many thanks, and as Paula would say "God bless."
