The Strolling Saxon - supporting East Grinstead Foodbank
On 21st June 2025 The Strolling Saxon - (Gavin Collins) will be setting out at 5am in the morning from our Foodbank to walk 26.2 miles around East Grinstead visiting locations around the town raising money to benefit East Grinstead Foodbank, and any donation will help make an impact. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to him.
Throughout his epic walk The Strolling Saxon will be wearing his Saxon Chain Mail armour weighing a total of 30 - 35 kilogrammes (66 - 77 Lbs) and carrying his shield. Many of our Foodbank volunteers will be accompanying him in relay along his route.
Among other sites He will be visiting the historic High Street - Sackville College - East Court and Queen Victoria Hospital. He will be checking in to the High Street regularly during his 11.5 hour marathon.
More information about East Grinstead Foodbank: Supporting local individuals and families in crisis who can't afford to put food on the table and referred to us by local agencies using vouchers issued by local support agencies, schools, churches welfare teams.
We provide emergency food and advice together with benefits checks and ongoing support to work towards a time when the foodbank support is not longer needed.
To do this costs money, to provide the premises, to store food, and meet clients, provide our Financial Inclusion Service with Citizens Advice, and keep the lights on, with a small team of part time staff and over 80 volunteers to keep it all running.
