The BELF.A.S.T Stroke Relay Team!

Donation protected
We are running the Belfast Marathon Relay race to raise funds to benefit our stroke patients! There are 4 teams comprising of 20 staff members from both the acute and community services including Consultants, Junior Doctors, Nurses, Healthcare Support Workers, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Dieticians, Rehabilitation Assistants and Physiotherapists - a whole team effort!

According to the Stroke Association, stroke strikes every 5 minutes in the UK and there are currently more than 30,000 people in Northern Ireland living with the often devastating aftermath of a stroke. Our stroke unit treats patients from all over NI, with 33 beds ranging from Hyperacute; for our very sick patients, to rehabilitation beds where patients begin their journey of recovery. Our community stroke team step in on discharge to provide timely and effective therapy to maximise recovery.

We are all very proud of our integrated team and the care it delivers however it is no secret that our NHS is hugely underfunded so we have decided to do something together to help improve the experience of our patients. Depending on money raised, we hope to add a new service to the ward, e.g. weekly therapet visits, or buy much needed equipment. Thank you in advance for any donation you are able to give no matter how small, and we will be sure to update the page on what we have used the raised funds for!
