I've been caring for a colony of cats alone for years. I spayed all the females, then the males. I adopted the kittens i hadn't heard from through an association, and every night i think of them. It seemed like it was all over, but then the abandonments began: elderly and sick cats, kittens under 20 days old left outside the house, in the garden, dragged through the gate... and i started over again, with formula, checkups, vaccines, supplements and medicines, and spayings. But anyone can go through difficult times. The last two years have been tough; the huge and prolonged veterinary bills for cats with chronic illnesses have taken away many of my resources to continue spaying and vaccinating. The kitten you see in the profile photo was found abandoned, tested positive for FELV and suffering from FIP, currently being treated with a very expensive injectable drug that is saving her life.

Da anni mi prendo cura da sola di una colonia di gatti. Ho sterilizzato tutte le femmine, poi i maschi. Ho adottato i gattini di cui non avevo più notizie tramite un'associazione e ogni notte penso a loro. Sembrava che tutto fosse finito, ma poi sono iniziati gli abbandoni: gatti anziani e malati, gattini di meno di 20 giorni lasciati fuori casa, in giardino, trascinati dentro dal cancello... e ho ricominciato tutto da capo, con latte artificiale, visite di controllo, vaccini, integratori e medicine, e sterilizzazioni. Ma chiunque può attraversare momenti difficili. Gli ultimi due anni sono stati duri; le ingenti e prolungate spese veterinarie per gatti con malattie croniche mi hanno prosciugato molte delle risorse che avrei potuto usare per continuare con sterilizzazioni e vaccinazioni. La gattina che vedete nella foto di profilo è stata trovata abbandonata, risultata positiva alla FELV e affetta da FIP, attualmente in cura con un farmaco iniettabile molto costoso che le salva la vita.
