The Stray Cats of Peraleja & Valle Del Sol, Spain
Donation protected
Hi! My name is Malcolm and I rescue cats! I came to Spain, temporarily, 3 years ago. I rented a property that came with 4 stray cats. Two of those had kittens. I started looking after them. By the time I lost my job, just before the Covid pandemic hit, I had 17. I now have, in my house, 36 currently - all from the streets of Spain. I also feed feral cats in my area. They have a very hard life on those streets and I simply cannot leave a cat on, or return a cat to, those streets. Currently 16 are on medication for one illness or another. One has feline-HIV. Several have terrible mouth problems which have resulted in teeth being removed - my little Bella, not yet 3 years old, had all her teeth removed 2-3 weeks ago…and it didn’t go well. I have relocated permanently to Spain now because I couldn’t leave these cats. So I sold my flat in London to buy a property here in Spain - I could not take 36 cats to my one-bedroom flat in London. So, we have a property to house my “gang” but I no longer have funds to feed and medicate them after buying this property in July last year - what I made from the sale of the flat has now been exhausted. They cost around 300€ a week in vets bills and 150€ a week in food. I have had 3, sadly, die this year, from cancer, pancreatitis and kidney failure. The treatment, although not successful in these cases, cost over 800€ each time. Worming, tick and flea treatment costs 1,800€ every 3 months; annual vaccinations total 3,600€ a year. I have applied for 40+ jobs since I lost my income without success (too old, I guess - at 61 I’ve been assigned to the scrap heap of unwanted workers) - so the cats desperately need your help! However small a donation you are able to make will make a difference to these cats and I gratefully appreciate it.
