Update. Next week, Nate has to make 2 separate trips to children's hospital. We had tried to see all 3 Dr's and get the mri on the same day to save gas on more than one trip, but that wasn't meant to be. He's been in a lot of pain the last two days. And has had some upset tummy time as well. Nate has lost a total of 28 pounds since surgery. He's almost a shell of the kid he was. He's withdrawn, and very quiet and reserved. It's so hard, as his momma to watch these changes in him, and not scream at the Dr's asking what they did to my little boy. :(
Our bills are still so behind right now, because we're still waiting for fmla paperwork, for Chris to be paid for the few weeks we were down in the hospital. I'm 1 month behind on rent, and the electric is in shut off status. I applied for help with dhs and everywhere else, but they don't factor that we haven't worked in weeks. They just see that there's a job and don't bother even trying to help. My nerves are completely shot. We went 8 months without a home last year. I'm scared we are so close to being back to wbere.we were. I can't handle have sick kids and no where for them to stay. We love and appreciate everyone who's helped us, so very much ♡♡ please continue to share this in the hopes I can keep my family in our home another month. And not have the electric shut off. Chris is back to work. But with the uaw strike, his hours have been cut, and hes one person. Once we fell behind its almost impossible to catch back up. Thank you all. With love. Windy
Update -- Nate had his biopsy, procedure went great, and he did wonderful. We are in recovery now waiting for him to wake up ♡ ty everyone so very much for the donations and shares and the love shown!! Words cannot express how wonderful you all are!
I am Windy Stiles, Nathaniel Stiles Mom. Nathaniel is 8 years old. He has a mass that's grown to 15cm across by 17cm wide under the upper right rib cage. This mass is protruding, and very painful for him. He started complaining of Tummy pain 2 months ago, and we started seeing his pediatrician regularly for it. 2 weeks ago, the Dr had done an exam of his tummy, gave him a prescription for antacids and scheduled an ultrasound for Sept 13th, this past Sunday. I had noticed he had a buldging belly, but didn't think much besides maybe he Had ate too much. Two days later, his teacher called with the same concern. By Wednesday, we were in the Dr's by 830am, and sent to Lapeer regional hospital by 10, and from there sent to children's of Detroit with the doctor suspicious that he has neuroblastoma, (Cancer of the kidney). Tomorrow, Monday the 11th, Nathaniel will undergo a biopsy to see exactly what this tumor is made of, and If it's cancerous. The mass is pressing on nates aorta, kidneys, and some very important blood vessels that supply the tummy with blood. Its in a spot it cannot be surgically removed with out a huge risk, and the drs are not willing to take the chance, so depending on the results of this biopsy, he will have to be admitted, and this mass has to be shrunk, from either radiation, oral meds, and or chemotherapy.
Unfortunately, this isn't the first time this year we have been in children's hospital of Detroit with a child who was diagnosed with cancer. On July 11th, 2023, my grand daughter, Elaina was also here, and diagnosed with B-cell ALL leukemia. Until 2 and a half weeks ago, both Nathaniel and Elaina lived in my home, and for the past couple years, I've been financially responsible for her and, at times her mother. She's since moved out (Aug 15th), and I was just starting to catch back up a tiny bit financially, when this blow came. So. For the last 3 and a half months, I was supplying gas, food, supplies etc for my daughter and her baby's trips to children's, now, I have to provide for my own sons illness. My bills were all due and some becoming past due before we knew there was also medical treatment needed for nate, but, I was confident we would be able to catch up with working overtime and living carefully, however, now thats not an option. Nates dad had to take the last week off work, we had to use the little money I had put away for this month's rent for food, gas and necessities, and, I'm scared if we don't figure something out very soon, we will be facing eviction. I was at war with myself about making a go fund me, and was against it, but, after talking to friends and family, I decided this might be our only option and maybe our last resort before being homeless. I have 3 young children home, including Nathaniel, and my elderly father who had a massive stroke in December that I am the caregiver for. We've always had to be careful and live paycheck to paycheck, but we always somehow managed no matter what life threw at us, but, this time, I just can't. If you can find it in your hearts to help my children, father and I keep our home, and me continue to be able to bring Nathaniel to the hospital for his treatments, I would be eternally grateful. Even a share would be appreciated. Chris is working as much as he possibly can, but, he's only one person, and he's torn between the hospital here with Nathaniel, and working 12 hour days there at home to keep us afloat as much as he can.
Thank you for reading, sharing and possibly donating. Words cannot express the gratitude I have for those of you who have already been here, giving encouragement, a shoulder, 20 dollars for gas, bringing a meal, whatever it is you've done. Having not one, but 2 babies with extensive medical problems in such a short time has been unreal. The support and love we've been shown thus far has been amazing. It really does take a village. With love, windy and my entire family. ♡
