Our father, beloved brother, uncle, best friend, community conversationist, and outdoorsman was travelling across the country from Vernon, British Columbia to move back east to New Brunswick.
Before leaving, he said, “I want to do the long cross-country drive one last time.”
Steve was excited for the beautiful adventure and to experience once again the mountainous backdrops, reflective lakes, wildlife, prairies, and provincial parks he loved so deeply. Along the way, he visited friends, shared meaningful conversations, and looked forward to arriving at his sister’s home in Ontario.
Tragically, on May 12, near Desbarats, Ontario, Steve was involved in a fatal commercial vehicle accident, and his journey was cut short. His beloved cat also passed away.
Steve had a deep appreciation for nature and the simplest things in life. Whether he was hiking, fishing, hunting, watching birds, or spending time with animals, he found joy in the world around him. He often reminded us to enjoy the moment before it becomes a memory.
He was so admirable about the country and how much beauty there is in it. He was a true outdoorsman and had the love for all that surrounds us. The love for the birds, hikes, and all animals.
More than anything, Steve loved people and in-depth conversation. He had a remarkable ability to connect with anyone he met, making others feel valued, understood, and welcome. His warmth, honesty, wisdom, and kindness touched countless lives across Canada.
To read about his love of life and admiration for all the little things, you can review his obituary here:
We wish he could have completed his journey as he was profoundly excited to relax in the beautiful countryside waiting for him in New Brunswick.
The Steve Taylor Memorial will directly go toward creating a commemorative feature dedication in his memory at one of his favourite local parks or dog park—an outdoor space that reflects his deep love of nature, animals, and community.
We hope this dedication will provide a place where family, friends, and future visitors can pause, reflect, and remember a man who found joy in the simple beauty of the world around him.
We also invite you to honour Steve by spending time outdoors. Walk a trail. Sit in the sunshine. Watch the clouds drift by. Listen to the birds. Find joy in all of the little things, and appreciate deep conversation.
He gave life everything he had.
And life is better because he did.
He will be remembered with deep gratitude, profound respect, and enduring love.
Thank you for helping us honour Steve's life, his love for the outdoors, and the lasting impact he had on so many people.
