Hi, My name is Erika and I am lucky to be friends with Brooke and her family. Brooke is a wife and young mother of 3 who has in less than a year been thrown more curveballs than most people have their whole lives. I am trying to help this amazing family with any financial assistance for medical bills.
Last year the Steidl family took a vacation to Hawaii, on the plane ride home Brooke endured excruciating pain which resulted in a trip to the ER. This is when this little family's world got turned upside down. Brooke was diagnosed with Colon Cancer that had metastasized to her liver. She had just been on cloud nine with the amazing vacation, they celebrated their youngest child's first birthday and then they found out this news. However, in true Brooke fashion, she faced this Cancer head-on and was ready to kick cancer's ass!!! Brooke started Chemo treatments and at first, it took a lot out of her, but with a little time, she was back to work and rocking her chemo pack. During this time her husband Travis was involved in a vehicular accident while at work, which caused him to be off work for several weeks and undergo surgery.
Fast forward to July, Brooke was finally able to have the surgery she had been praying for. With this surgery, they took part of her colon, part of her liver, and her gallbladder. Brooke was in the hospital for weeks before getting to come home to recover. After a short time home, she came back to work part-time and was looking forward to getting back to her new normal.
Halfway through September, Brooke went to the ER again as she was collecting fluid in her stomach and had discomfort.
Brooke had to be life-flighted to Portland and was told she now had a mass on her ovary that was putting pressure on a major vein and caused a blood clot . After much back and forth on what was going to be the plan of attack, Brooke had a full hysterectomy only weeks after having a huge abdominal surgery. Okay, she can handle this! A 6-week recovery and then it's in the past. After a few week's stay, Brooke was able to come home and love on her babies.
Less than 24 hours after arriving home, Brooke was life-flighted once again due to a brain bleed which after she arrived they discovered lesions. She got a drain tube placed and the very next day underwent a 7+ hour surgery to remove the lesions. Surgery went great and she will be in the hospital for at least a week before undergoing months of recovery from home.
Family members are helping Travis to take care of the kids, while also being there for Brooke.
Now Brooke has to recover from not 1, not 2 but 3 major surgeries.
Brooke is not someone who likes to ask for help however this family needs help and a break.
To alleviate any financial burden would be amazing!
Even if you are unable to donate, please keep this family in your prayers.
Thank you!
