My name is Melvin L. Morgan Jr., a graduating senior Dance & Choreography major with a minor in Psychology at Morehouse College, originally from Canton, Ohio. I am seeking support for my senior capstone project, The State of Absence—an interdisciplinary dance performance exploring nostalgia, identity, and the emotional residue of growing up. The work unfolds across four stages of life, blending contemporary and hip-hop movement to reflect how memory, choice, and self-understanding live in the body. Drawing from my upbringing as both a performer and the child of a dancer and choreographer, this piece is deeply personal and invites audiences to confront memory, loss, and self-acceptance through movement. This project also marks a milestone, as I step forward as the second man of Morehouse College to produce a dance capstone.
While the college provides space and limited resources, producing a fully realized, immersive performance requires additional funding. Donations will support dancer compensation, production and multimedia design, costumes, documentation, and audience engagement elements.
To thank my supporters, I’m offering incentives at every level, including thank-you cards, personal messages, social media shoutouts, program recognition, behind-the-scenes content, VIP seating, signed materials, and performance documentation. Incentives will be delivered at various times, such as shortly after your donation, before the show, or after the performance, depending on the type of thank-you gift.
I invite you to be part of The State of Absence. Any contribution, big or small, helps make this vision a reality, and sharing this journey is just as meaningful. Thank you for believing in this work and supporting its impact.
