I'm Bryce Cristiano, a passionate filmmaker and recent graduate from The City College of New York. I'm thrilled to bring our heartfelt documentary, "The Space Between," to life, and I'd love for you to join me on this incredible journey. This film is a personal exploration of my relationship with my mom (Kelley), shedding light on the complexities of growing up in a same-sex parent household.
"The Space Between" explores themes of homophobia admist heteronormative family structures. It captures the weighty emotions and challenges we faced, striving to make these experiences palpable to viewers.
Supported by, Yanqi Zhang, who contributes her cinematographic vision, we created a safe space for my mother to open up about her negative experiences. Our aim is to demonstrate how our unique life paths have shaped our responses to bigotry, including our struggles with teenage depression.
This documentary holds a deeply personal significance for me. It's not about painting an idealized picture of growing up with same-sex parents; rather, it's about presenting an authentic portrayal of the complexities we've faced due to societal biases. We want to foster empathy and understanding, not only for individuals raised by same-sex parents but also for anyone who has encountered discrimination.
