The Solar Harvest House
Don protégé
This year students at the Knowlesville Art & Nature School have taken up the challenge build a greenhouse. They named their project the "Solar Harvest House" and have outlined some pretty impressive goals for the project: • To grow more vegetables and fruits for school snacks, lunches and potlucks; • To grow enough food to share with the families of the school; • To learn about growing vegetables, fruits and herbs by actually doing it (even when the outdoor garden season is done or not started yet); • To warm the classroom on sunny days when it is still cold out for free (no wood or electricity needed); • To have a warm place to hang out in on cold sunny days..
Since mid-January the students have been working on their greenhouse design, and finalizing a viable location. The final steps are to pitch the design to the KAN Centre board of directors and fundraise for the material costs of the project which are estimated to be about $1000.
