Why 17km? Well, the number represents Chromosome 17, which is affected with Smith-Magenis Syndrome (SMS). We have chosen to support the SMS Foundation UK, a charity which supports families and individuals living with this rare genetic condition. The condition has a wide range of effects including developmental delay, learning difficulties, and significant behavioral and sleep disturbances. Individuals with SMS often exhibit self-injurious behaviors, temper tantrums, and obsessive traits, alongside physical characteristics such as short stature, a distinctive facial appearance, and skeletal issues like scoliosis. Sleep problems, which can cause day-time sleepiness and are often linked to a misaligned body clock.

All funds raised from our event will be donated directly to the SMS foundation UK to help them continue their amazing work in raising awareness, offering support and improving the lives of those impacted by SMS.
