The Small Shop LA Rebuild

The Small Shop is a store that promotes locally sourced and manufactured goods. They are committed to supporting Downtown Los Angeles' local economy, and Joel Stallworth, the founder and owner of The Small Shop LA, has been an influencer in DTLA since 2013. He moved into the space on 6th and Spring in 2016 and has opened his doors to all people with love since then. Joel is well-known for his iconic messages, "Love is Energy" and "Lost in Los Angeles."

On May 29th, 2020, The Small Shop LA was in the epicenter of peaceful protests and later that evening, The Small Shop LA was vandalized. Luckily, no one was hurt.

When asked about how he feels about the loss to his business, Joel responded, "I'm alive. I don't support ignorance but I understand ignorance. People are tired of this. Stop killing innocent people. Don't hurt nobody. Don't kill nobody. When people are hurt, they holla." Joel's place is destroyed, but he still appreciates the movement and is committed to rebuilding in Downtown LA.

The store's doors and windows were shattered and merchandise was stolen. Joel's plan for funding includes repairing the exterior and interior of the shop, replacing lost or stolen electronics and merchandise, maintaining employment for his employees, and extending service to respond to the community that has supported him from day 1.
