The Small Horses Of Rhodes

Hello! My name is Maddalena and I am fundraising for the Small Horses of Rhodes.

This critically endangered, purebred, indigenous horse is only found on the beautiful island of Rhodes, Greece.

They are small but they are not ponies or miniature horses; they are perfectly proportioned small horses. Which makes them doubly precious. Imagine three thousand years of uninterrupted genes! There are only 14 left. And they need a lot of help.

You can help them by becoming aware of their plight and supporting our fundraising efforts to bring the herd back to a healthy number and saving them from certain extinction.

Help is needed to maintain and add to the facility. The cost and quality of the good feed needed will soon require buying it off-island. The guardian of the Small Horses (fondly known as George) needs help with the physical work of running the stables. Regular equine vet services need to be brought in as there aren’t any equine vets on-island.

All of this requires funding which is in short supply on an island of only 100,000 inhabitants.

They need international financial help.

The funds will be used for vet fees (medical+dental), medications, hay+supplements, minor repairs to structures, re-establishment of an alfalfa field, travel fees.

There is not a lot of interest to help these precious, endangered souls, but I am interested. Wholeheartedly interested. As are a handful of people who have made Rhodes their home.
