In November of 2020, Shane Slate was injured in a work accident at Ashley Furniture. A new employee hit the wrong button and the mistake resulted in a drill going completely through Shane’s foot. He was rushed to the emergency room where he had emergency surgery that fused several bones together, placed metal in his foot, and attempted to repair the skin at the top of his foot. He was completely unable to walk for over a month and then had several more months of physical therapy before it was decided that he was no longer making improvements. He is able to live a normal life, with some modifications, but he is still in a great deal of pain every day and unable to work any job that requires him to be on his feet for more than a couple hours. For this reason, he had to step away from the job that had provided for his family for the last five years. And any normal job has been basically off the table. So his doctor has made the decision to do another reconstruction and bone fusion on his foot and ankle. This should help with the pain, but will even further limit his motion in that foot. He will be unable to do anything for another month or two, and then have to begin the entire PT process again. The second surgery is scheduled to be this Thursday, July 29th.
Shane and Kelsey have three small children, and while they’re doing everything they can to provide for those children, it is hard in their current situation, with Shane unable to really work more than odd jobs. Kids are expensive. Back to school costs are coming in quickly. And bills pile up. But God always makes a way, and this has been no exception. Their village has showed up for them time and time again. And I know in my heart they are beyond grateful. So please, please, keep them in your continued prayers. And if you feel led, please help where you can.
