If you worked with Skye Wiene, you probably remember him as the gorgeous, gentle giant ducking through the hallways at OddBot Studios.
Tragically, Skye passed away on December 9, 2019, from injuries sustained in a traffic collision on his way home from work. He had just celebrated his 24th birthday last month. The news has been devastating for his family and all of us who knew him.
Skye had a quiet sense of humor that made you laugh out loud if you caught it. He was an intriguing mix of introverted and mischievous, and will be remembered throughout the office for his signature smirk. He always found clever ways of contributing to office shenanigans, while somehow avoiding the spotlight (which is no small feat considering he was 6’10”). Skye genuinely enjoyed helping people. Sometimes it was as simple as troubleshooting a software problem. Sometimes it was a silent act of kindness he did for you and snuck away before you even noticed. He made sure to greet you, using your name, as you passed him in the hall, and it often caught you off guard, because it was deliberate and kind. Skye was a treasure and we’ll miss his presence immensely.
There’s nothing sweet to be said about this tragedy. To alleviate some of the family’s financial burden, OddBot has decided to ask our animation community for help covering Skye’s funeral expenses.
