Hello my name is Sarah Jane Morris.

I want to tell you about this passion project that I call ‘The Sisterhood.

Some of you may have been involved in helping us realise Volume 1 of ‘The Sisterhood’ and we Thankyou for that.

The Sisterhood is a project whereby I honour iconic female singer songwriters who I feel helped shape popular music. I respectfully researched the life stories of each singer (with my husband Mark ) and wrote their life journeys into song, with the collaboration of Tony Remy my right hand music man.

in volume one we wrote songs about Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Miriam Makeba, Aretha Franklin, Janis Joplin, Joni Mitchell, Rickie Lee Jones, Annie Lennox and Kate Bush.

We went to Johannesburg to record The Soweto Gospel Choir on the song for Miriam Makeba : https://youtu.be/HMJWejZF1_Y?si=JdKGRczbE6CUxHAB

We launched the album at The Alexandra Palace Theatre on International Women’s Day with a 12 piece band and a 40 piece masterclass choir. We wrote a 10 part radio series for Jazz FM about each of the singers and each single was ‘Single of the week’ and the album ‘Album of the week’. The project was so uplifting that Tony, Mark and I have continued writing and we now have 10 more songs about 10 more iconic singer songwriters writers which will record in October.

I’ve been doing concerts all year and putting half my earnings aside to pay for the recording and mixing and mastering. There are not enough concerts in the year for me to cover it all.

There are the fees for artwork design, photography, pressing and printing for the CD and vinyl. There is the cost of a marketing campaign for press and radio and social media. There are videos to be made.

This Is why I’ve needed to set up a ‘Go Fund Me’ to help realise these important parts of the process.
