Matthew and Tania were very excited to invite their new baby son home in a few short weeks, but due to a high risk pregnancy Tania spent some time in the hospital. After a few days, Matthew and Tania returned home on September 1st.
Later that night, the historic rainfall in NYC was so intense it flooded their entire apartment. 2 feet of water mixed with sewage backed up from the drainage pipes in their basment apartment and destroyed all of their belongings. Tania, still on bedrest was forced to evacuate with their older son (4 years). Thankfully their daughter (12 years) wasn't home at the time. Matthew stayed behind to try and save their apartment.
When the rainfall slowed Matthew was finally able to drain most of the water from the apartment but all of the items touched by the water were destroyed. Anything that might have been saved was unusable due to the sewage. Aside from anything in the kitchen cabinets, they lost it all. The new baby items, their older son's belongings, their daughter's belongings, and all of Matthew and Tania's belongings.
Please consider donating to the Silva Family Flood Relief Fundraiser! The family will be using this money to rebuild their lives and repurchase the entirety of their home so they can be ready to finally welcome home their newest addition to their family.
