SYNOPSIS & THE STORY
Pat, a young trombonist, lives his life auditioning every other day for touring ensembles. A man with a scattered mind and isolated lifestyle, he struggles to live with his long-term girlfriend that distracts him from his work. When Pat finds himself exposed in his need for silence, a mentoring conductor helps him see from a new perspective the things that artists struggle with every day in order to make their art. The Silence Between allows the audience to explore the complicated relationships that artists have with their mentors, their partners, and themselves.
INTRODUCTION
My name is Danielle Hazelton and I am an active member of the Dorset and Manchester community. Currently, I am a senior at Champlain College pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Filmmaking. This letter is to invite you to participate in my newest short film project, titled The Silence Between.
Today many people worry about their career choices and are unsure about following their passions, therefore the film will provide opportunities for dialogue about self-reflection, identity, and our ability to overcome obstacles we face every day.
The Silence Between is my thesis film here at Champlain College, and I am seeking funding and support with which to make the film. The college provides each student with equipment and post-production facilities, however, the remainder of the budget, totaling at approximately $3000, is raised by the individual filmmaker, which is me.
Therefore, I humbly seek your support in making this film a reality. I am seeking any donation amount you would be willing to contribute. The Dorset and Manchester communities gave so much to me growing up, and helped me realize my passion for filmmaking. Now, I hope that you, as a member of this wonderful community, or someone who I've met after my departure from my hometown, will step forward to help make this film a reality.
FUNDING USE
The main uses of funding would go to the following:
--Actor and Crew Compensation: As actors are also starving artists, we would like to provide them with compensation for their time. Derek, our lead actor and a professional trombone player, is our lead while Neil Freebern, chair of the Creative Arts Department at Burr and Burton Academy is our other lead. We will also have Allie McGahie, local to the Manchester area and an experienced actress, as our supporting actress.
--Meals & Transportation: The film was entirely shot in Dorset and Manchester, Vermont over the course of three days. As this requires a two-and-a-half hour drive from Burlington, and a 4 hour drive from Massachusetts, as well as providing meals for the crew during this time period, the funding would help contribute to this area of our anticipated budget.
--Locations & Props: With location deposit fees and a variety of props needed for the set, donations would be used to offset these costs.
--Festival Submissions: It would be great to have this film made, but even greater to be able to share it with the world. Most submissions to festivals cost money, anywhere between $25-100. Donations will also go towards offsetting the cost of these submissions to get the film shown across the country.
--Other Overhead Needs: Small things add up, like two 3 TB hard drives that cost $300, or buying last minute extension cords or props, and other unanticipated expenses. These donations will help go towards repayment for cast and crew that spent the money themselves.

MOOD AND LOOK
The film takes place in the real world but the lighting of the film teeters on the border between reality and dreams. We are using lots of theatrical lighting in this piece, which highlights the idea that the character is chasing his dreams and trying to figure out how to make them a reality.
Here are some images from the film to give you a better idea:

We hope that you are willing to donate, even just a little bit, to this amazing project. Every little bit helps us reach our goal.
Thanks for checking us out,
