The Shijaeya, Gaza, Community Project

Donation protected
The Shijaeaya Community Project in Shijayea, Gaza, is a non-profit initiative focused on the educational and behavioral needs of Palestinian children living in Shijaeaya, a low income neighborhood of Gaza continually devastated by war. The mission of the Project is to create a safe, peaceful, environment where children from the neighborhood find support, work through their trauma, and have the chance to play, to learn, and to flourish.

The vision of The SCP is permeated with hope, imagination, and love.

The situation now--in March 2024--is urgent.

When possible, The SCP provides meals for the children. As part of its mission, The SCP supports educators and parents to take care of themselves and one another while learning tools and practices of self-care, communication, expression, and dialogue, to support the younger generation.

With your support, the Palestinian educators of The SCP--from Shijaeya and nearby areas of Gaza, will do their best to meet the urgent needs of the community. Money raised will be used to run expanded programs for children, educators, and parents.

Thank you for considering a donation! We appreciate you.

The SCP was launched in November 2014 after the devastation of Shijaeya during the previous summer's war as part of an organization called Seeds of Peace. When the founders of The SCP left Seeds of Peace and created The Fig Tree Alliance, The SCP became part of The Fig Tree Alliance.

We started this Gofundme in the aftermath of the escalated violence of the summer of 2021. With money raised mostly from other sources, The SCP continued to offer educational programming and support for the children of the neighborhood until the end of the summer of 2023. In response to the current humanitarian crisis in Gaza, we have reactivated this Gofundme fundraiser.

The Fig Tree Alliance is dedicated to helping the people of Shijaeya as part of their efforts to create a more humane, just, and peaceful future for all. We include Mohammed Isleem of Columbus, Ohio, Deborah Bicknell of Portland, Maine, and Daniel Noah Moses of Troy, New York. Each of us live in The United States and are American citizens.

One of the key educators behind The SCP, Mohammed is originally from Shijaeya. He has children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces and nephews, cousins, life-long friends, neighbors, and colleagues, still living there. He is in touch regularly with the Palestinian educators on the ground who run The SCP.

Many people have left the neighborhood temporarily and are waiting to return home. Others remain in Shijaeya. The photograph featured for this fundraiser is from a recent day of activites organized by The SCP in Shijaeya.
