The Shepard Family Emergency Request

Hello. My name is Dennis and I’m fundraising for a beloved member of my church.

Sarah is a beautiful Christian soul who has given to others her whole life, including missionary work in Mexico and India. Sarah moved to California from Washington in 2018 to help her daughter Bethany take care of the kids after a divorce. Living in a 2 bedroom apartment, since Sarah arrived she survived COVID and is undergoing treatment for breast cancer and a secondary blood cancer. Sarah makes a small amount teaching Christian faith-based courses online, helping others write their memoirs.

Bethany's ex-husband wrote her yesterday stating that he can't pay child support because he lost his job. Sarah and Bethany rely on his payments to pay their bills. I think he's saying he can't pay for the children's insurance also, but it’s not clear.

Sarah thinks this may be an opportunity to reunite the family, but it's tricky. Legal issues have ruined them before. They lost all the hearings we went to so far. They need a lawyer, but they have no money to pay even their basic expenses coming up in May. The family is a couple of weeks from homelessness and Bethany is worried she'll lose her kids if they sleep in the parking lot at the local church.
