Synopsis
Seven teens gather in the woods to take a hallucinogenic drug as part of a cult ceremony. But as the drug begins to kick in, each of the teens are faced with a manifestation of their deepest, most personal fears. Will the drug trip culminate in a happy ending, or is this nightmare-ish reality just the beginning?

Some more details
Each of the seven characters are based on one of the seven branches of philosophy (political philosophy, epistemology, aesthetics, ethics, logic, axiology, and metaphysics). Their reactions to each other and to the fear-driven hallucinations represent how many of us react in intense, uncomfortable, or unfamiliar situations while also poking fun at adolescent struggles and Gen-Z humor.

Why this story? Why now?
Due to the current political climate and my own coming-of-age experiences, I was inspired to create The Seven Philosophies as a way to explore the pain and discomfort of adolescence and the ways in which we cope with new, uncomfortable, and even frightening experiences. Each of the characters in this film ache for acceptance amidst discovering who they are and dealing with external pressures. The decision to make this a horror/ thriller comedy came from wanting to explore representations of fear, being silenced, and how humor is often used as a coping mechanism during difficult situations. The idea is that, in this film, just like in our real lives, you never know what's coming next, and sometimes you don't know whether to laugh or be scared.

The team behind the story

We're a team of LA-based filmmakers who are passionate about creating fresh and exciting stories and collaborating with up-and-coming artists.

Budget breakdown
On-Set Equipment: $1,170
We want to rent the best equipment so we're fully able to create and capture the world of our film. This includes renting camera, lighting, and sound equipment as well as purchasing a hard drive and SD card to store our footage on.

Location Permits: $165
In order to film in our desired locations and comply with LA filming rules, we must purchase filming permits.

Crafty + Transportation: $720
These funds will go towards feeding our cast and crew as well as partially reimbursing people for transportation costs.

Costumes/Props: $120
Funding for costumes will allow us to fully bring these characters to life as well as purchase necessary SFX makeup (this is a horror movie after all;)

Post-Production: $900
Post production costs include paying our musicians and colorist/editor, reserving a theater space for our premiere, and covering the costs to submit to film festivals.

Fundraising Fees: $92
GoFundMe takes 2.9% of the money that we raise through this campaign.

TOTAL: $3,167
Every dollar helps and will allow us to not only create the world of our film, but also tell this terrifying and hilarious story in the best way possible.
