Why We’re Raising Money for the Service Children’s Community Choir

Every week, military children walk through our doors carrying more than their songbooks. They carry the weight of constant moves, long separations, and the quiet worry that comes with having a parent serving their country.

The Service Children’s Community Choir gives them something rare and precious — a place where they finally feel steady, connected, and understood.

But today, we are fighting to keep that place alive.

Why this matters

Military children move, on average, every two years. They say more goodbyes before age 10 than many adults say in a lifetime. They start over again and again — new schools, new friends, new routines.

Our choir is often the only consistent thing in their world.

Here, they:

- Build friendships that survive the moves

- Grow confidence and resilience

- Find joy during deployments

- Feel part of a community that understands their unique challenges

- Have a safe, creative outlet for emotions they can’t always put into words

This isn’t “just singing”.

This is belonging.

This is wellbeing.

This is home.

Why we urgently need your help

We are run entirely by volunteers — parents, teachers, veterans, and community members who give their time, energy, and hearts to keep this choir going.

But goodwill alone can’t cover:

- Venue hire

- Music licences

- Uniforms

- Resources

- Performance costs

- Accessibility support for children with additional needs

We have applied for funding again and again. We’ve been knocked back not because our work isn’t vital, but because small, volunteer-led projects are too often overlooked.

If we cannot secure urgent support, we risk losing this choir — and the safe space it provides for so many children.
