The Selfie Stylist Company Fundraiser

Hi there! My name is Sharrelle, and I am the founder of The Selfie Stylist. Thank you for taking the time to read about my story and my business. I decided to let my hair go natural about 15 years ago, after learning of the health problems many African American women face due to toxic and painful hair products and treatments, such as relaxers. (I, too, had personal experiences with this: relaxers burned, and I felt tired of putting myself through this. I was exhausted with straightening my hair, wearing wigs, and feeling the  constant need to alter my natural self to conform to societal, white-centered beauty ideals).

A few years after making this decision for myself, I felt moved to empower other people to embrace their natural self, too. My multi-ethnic nieces inspired me to create The Selfie Stylist to realize this goal of empowering others; I sought to create hair products that would help my nieces and their mothers love and feel beautiful with their natural hair. Moreover, over the years I had realized that there was a dearth of natural hair products on store shelves; here, I realized, there was an opportunity in the market to sell my safe, all-natural hair product and to, on a large scale, increase representation and visibility for people with Afro-Curly Textured hair.

The Selfie Stylist has given me a platform on which to empower people to feel comfortable and beautiful with their natural hair and to embrace their true self, whomever that may be.

I have many long-term goals -- such as advocating for natural hair acceptance in corporate and professional settings through cultural sensitivity training; continuing the curation of premium products; and growing my business in order to support more employees. In order to realize these goals, and to continue my mission of empowering all people to embrace their beauty, I need financial support.

If you would like to support a black-owned, woman-owned business, I would so greatly appreciate donations -- big and small -- The money will go directly towards buying raw materials, supplies, paying my employee who currently works for free, and other various purchases necessary to help my business thrive.

Thank you in advance!
