We are The Lunas. A pair of multi-racial brothers raised in the Southern California sun. My older brother, Samuel Luna, grew up playing in local bands and school talent shows, growing up to direct his own music videos in his jazz-rock band. Samuel is the director in our brotherly duo. And there’s me, Lucas Luna. I spent my childhood acting in our home movies, and later attending school and studying film critically. I’m the writer and actor on our team.
Our film, The Self, is a story about a day in the life of a competitive video game tournament. In a grimey, sweaty house we find our hero locked in a heated battle with the voices in his head and with a controller in his hand. The Self is a story about what it means to compete and win. And more importantly what it means to lose. Based on a real lived experience, our film tells the story of how we attempt to find meaning, even in something as silly as a local video game tournament.
We examine the often overlooked competitive video game community who fight to be taken seriously in a world where people couldn't be bothered to understand. Dedication and discipline can be found in the most unlikely places and one thing we've learned while being in this community is that passion, heart, and determination are sometimes all we have.
Our film The Self is a heady-nerdy-introspective-competitive-chamber-drama and we are happy to bring it to the world! We truly believe in the power of films and look forward to being new dynamic voices in the world of tomorrow.
Any amount that you donate will directly contribute to taking this film internationally to film festivals all over the world. The funds help us with the film festival submissions fees themself as well as any travel costs associated.
