Hi I'm Sean O'Brien
I've been battling stage 4 bowel cancer for some time now with the help of the amazing NHS and it's incredible workers.
Unfortunately I've now come to the point where the possibility of getting effective drugs/treatments lay mainly on the private side of the health care. I'm fortunate to have access to this - through the private arm of my hospital trust. We all have our opinions on this - most very strong but for now it's what will keep me alive.
- bill for latest cycles I'm about to take on. We will be scanning shortly after, keeping a close eye on it all. Had a really good response of the first 6 cycles.
We're currently paying £1500 every 2 weeks for Panitumumab. Funded through the genorostity & time of many amazing people who have been a big help so far. This funding/treatment has put me back into a much better position cancer wise! I have great faith we can achieve much more here.
Yet - the money goes fast (15k into Panitumumab & counting ) so I'm setting up a big one as I'm no where near done fighting for my lil family and the quality time I've been afforded to spend with them lately. Having it all in one place will help me keep my head clear as I search for trials & decide which NHS Top up I go for next. This is what patients without insurance are increasingly having to do in the UK.
Also looking at treatments like SABR etc for downstaging my cancer burden. I may even take myself out to the states for a strong clinical trial. Still very much putting my heart & sould into this. My body can withstand & mentally I'm still keen as ever. I'm not tired.
We now have a near 5 month old boy called Max who is a pure joy as I'm sure you can see in the pic. He keeps me going and believing like never before.
I've still very much got this!

Finally. Massive shout to everyone whose helped us out through this very challenging year
